Lyrics to Van Halen's new single: Tattoo

... so far as I can tell from the 90 second preview on the iTunes New Zealand site (where it's already release day)

Tattoo
by Van Halen

I got Elvis on my elbow
And when I flex, Elvis talks.
I got hula girls on the back of my legs
and she hulas when I walk

Saying Cherry Red
Scream Electric Green
Purple Mountain's Majesty
Do it talk to me
Talk to me, babe!

Swap-Meet Sally
Tramp stamp cat
Mouse wife to Momshell in the time it took to get that new tattoo
Tattoo Tattoo

Tattoo Tattoo
Show me your Dragon Magic
Tattoo Tattoo
So Autobiographic

Best believe that needle hurts you
Best deceive these true colors that follow one of your false virtues

Here's a secret
to make you think:
Why is the crazy stuff we'd never say
poetry in ink?

Speak in dayglo red
explodo-pink
Purple Mountain's Majesty
Show me you, I'll show you me

Swap-Meet Sally
Tramp Stamp Cat
Mouse wife to Momshell in the time it took to get that new tattoo
Tattoo Tattoo

Tattoo Tattoo
Sexy Dragon Magic
Tattoo Tattoo
So very autobiographic
Tattoo Tattoo
Got a hold on me
Tattoo Tattoo
It put a spell on me
Hey! Oh yeah!

Uncle Danny had a gold tattoo
He fought for the unions, some of us still do
On my shoulder is the number of the chapter he was in
That number is forever like the struggle here to win

Everybody!

Swap-Meet Sally
Tramp Stamp Cat
Mouse wife to Momshell in the time it takes to get that new tattoo
Tattoo Tattoo

Tattoo Tattoo
Sexy Dragon Magic
Tattoo Tattoo
So very autobiographic
Tattoo Tattoo
Got a hold on me
Tattoo Tattoo
It put a spell on me
Tattoo Tattoo
I'm in love with you
Tattoo Tattoo
Show you me show me you
Tattoo Tattoo
Look at me look at you
Tattoo Tattoo
Whoo!

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Visits Avid - Oct 7, 2011

What's more inspiring than a suped-up, state-of-the-art, mobile music and video recording studio? Avid is a sponsor of The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus which travels to schools across the US so kids can create their own original music and accompanying music video. Check out their site and some of the student work. So I was pretty psyched when they announced their visit to our Burlington office. I was even more psyched to see inside:

How to delete a stubborn folder in Windows 7 / Vista when it says, 'Item not found'

I discovered a stubborn folder that could not be copied or deleted: Windows 7 kept opening an "item not found" dialog. Turns out it was an attempted download gone wrong, resulting in an empty, stubborn folder (like I said).

So I did some searching, and finally found the solution which I've copied below. But at step 5, instead of renaming the folder I removed it with this:

rd /s <8.3 name>

Here it is for anyone else searching,

Solution for Vista's "Item not found" error when deleting or renaming
files/folders

When you try to delete or rename a file/folder, you may receive a
window that says:
"Item not found. Could not find this item. This is no longer located
in [folder]. Verify the item's location and try again."

To solve, follow these steps:
1. Open up a command prompt (run cmd.exe from the Start Menu).
2. Navigate to the folder that the object resides in.
3. Run "dir /a /x /p" to display the contents of the folder, including
hidden files (/a) and 8.3 filenames (/x).
4. Find the 8.3 filename of the object to the left of the regular,
long filename.
5. Run "ren <8.3 name>" to rename the object, "del <8.3 name>" to
delete it if it's a file and "rd /s <8.3 name>" to delete it if it's a
folder.
Note: If renaming to a long filename, make sure to enclose the long
filename in quotations. If that fails, temporarily rename it to an 8.3
name and then rename it to what you want outside of the command
prompt.

Type in a command prompt

Dir "c:\Crookers - Knobbers remix.*"/s /a

which will search the whole hard drive

The Science of Why We Don't Believe Science

This is fascinating.. lots of info about our brains and our own biases and aversion to logic and evidence. "One thing is becoming clear: If you want someone to accept new evidence, make sure to present it to them in a context that doesn't trigger a defensive, emotional reaction." In other words, appeal to their values and world-view first, then present the facts. Sounds like a primer for running for a political office.

5150 time

The "In the Studio" radio show is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Van Halen's 5150 album by having all the guys on to chat it up.
(show link. Scroll down and hear a preview on the left)

Of course the guys probably didn't all record the show together in the studio at the same time, 'cause they're out of love... again. But yeah, this is one great CD.

My first batch of BMG CDs -- in one of those crazy "buy 10 CDs for $1" or something deals -- was all Van Halen. I gorged on VH my freshman and sophmore years in high school. The Sammy CDs in particular gave me the goosebumps of recognizing songs from years of casual exposure to them on the radio.

Amazing.

I miss the idea of the 80s more than the actual 80s themselves: when I was there I was too young to take advantage of certain inalienable rights to wear hot pink pants and yellow sneakers. I was raised on the promise of outfits like the one above, and by the time I became old enough to make these types of decisions for myself, everybody was grunge-city. Ew.
